About the Artist
Karen Watson
I hope that my passion for our beautiful coastline comes through in my work. For as long as I can remember I've loved the ocean, and I am still amazed by how the simplest of animals create such intricate patterns and fascinating colors, each one it's own little work of art!
I began working with resin in 2020 when I inherited a collection of shells from decades of beach trips my sister and I had taken with our parents. At the suggestion of a friend, I purchased my first order of epoxy resin to immortalize the memories in a 10" trivet. It still sits on my coffee table and my fascination with this medium and the way it can be used to enhance the beauty of shells just continues to grow.
I collect all of the materials used in my work from my walks on the beach. I never collect live animals! Some of the shark teeth come from IRB, the rest were found in the Venice Beach area.
